One morning
Sahti noticed. Sahti asked. Nobody panicked.
-
7:02 AMThe usual check-in.
“Morning, Rose.” Tea, the radio, the cuff — 126 over 80. Sahti turns to her, says the number out loud and remembers it.
-
9:00 AMThe unusual quiet.
Most days she's back in her chair by nine. Today the room is still. Sahti turns toward the hallway, waits two minutes, then asks: “Rose, everything all right?”
-
9:04 AMThe call to her daughter.
No answer, so Sahti lets you know: “Rose hasn't been up since 7:40 — I've asked twice.” You call. She slept in. You both laugh. That's the whole story — and that's the point.
